We are looking for an experienced Design Researcher
The role:
The Design Researcher is an integral part of the Research Function within the Verisure Global Design Team. The role will be based in our Madrid office with some European travel required.
The role will primarily be responsible for running a program of continuous usability testing on the app in Spain. This Design Researcher will also be expected to support and connect insights with other research and design activities related to the digital products and services on a global level.
The Design Researcher role will work closely with a wide cross-functional team in helping to define user problems to solve, evaluating new concepts, improving existing products and validating design solutions, specifically on the app.
The role requires excellent communication skills, flexibility, and a team player attitude that thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. The Design Researcher works closely with passionate engineering and product development teams that are deeply concerned about the creation of great consumer experiences.
The Design Researcher works with a degree of independence and is responsible for setting the plan and activities within any given research program or initiative. The role can simultaneously plan, conduct, and report on a few research activities at a time.
The Design Researcher actively participates in product development discussions with other designers and collaborative partners; often taking a leading role in conversations around consumer’s behaviors and expectations on any given project.
The role is tasked with finding compelling and creative ways to present and share research insights to a broad spectrum of process partners providing the necessary data points to enable the project team to make informed decisions in the development of new products and services.
Main Responsibilities
Main responsibilities will include supporting the business in all aspects of User Experience Research. Key tasks include but are not limited to:
- Plan and conducting rigorous and continuous usability tests on the app to track and measure changes to the experience over time as well as inform and inspire upcoming changes to the digital experience for our customer.
- Triangulate qualitative and quantitative data to generate strategic and tactical insights along with actionable recommendations that drive product and service design improvements.
- Actively looks for feedback from their supervisor and senior peers on larger research assignments in the analysis and interpretation of cognitive, behavioral, and physiological consumer data.
- Actively looks to review their work with peers and or supervisor on smaller scale projects/initiatives to ensure best practice, share learnings and ensure the highest quality outcome is presented to stakeholders and collaborators.
- Facilitates workshops with stakeholders to enable them to make decisions about projects/initiatives.
- Actively recommends research approaches for any given problem space and knows the key advantages and disadvantages to multiple methodologies. Independently choose which method(s) would be best suited to the research needs.
- Conduct analysis on a final product, raising the alarm on any overlooked defects relating to the product’s interface or design as well as the potential solutions to such errors.
- Independently present findings from research activities to peers, process partners and design leadership as necessary and/or when requested.
- Work with stakeholders to agree research objectives based on project needs and business goals; constantly looking for data-points to build a user experience recommendation and/or hypothesis.
- Take a leading role when supporting the Research Manager on internal initiatives from documentation and project data indexing to exploring new skills, tools, methodologies, trends, and practices.
- Use data and insights from a multitude of sources to help designers and other key stakeholders make informed decisions about the user experience.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years’ experience working with qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. Experience in usability studies, interviewing, ethnographic observation, and video editing are desired.
- A bachelors’ degree (or equivalent) in Cognitive Sciences, Statistics, Human-Psychology, Computer Science, Computer Interaction, or any other related Design and Research field.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to relay complex information in a simple, clear, and concise manner to collaborating personnel.
- Good interpersonal skills to ensure a proper execution of the role’s duties with minimal conflict and complications between collaborative and cross-functional personnel.
- Proficient computer skills with both Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Figma/Figjam are mandatory.
- Fluency in English and Spanish is very important, both in written and spoken forms. Proficiency in Catalan is also highly desirable but not a requirement.
Additional Experience
- Experience of working with research methodologies such as usability testing, field research, surveys, diary studies, desk research, expert interviews, competitive analysis, and A/B testing are highly desired.
- Proven and demonstrable experience of research assignment planning is highly desired.
- A proven record of accomplishment of successfully applying design research and strategic thinking with demonstrable impact on project decisions, products, or services.
- An understanding of modern project management methodologies (e.g., agile, lean UX) are desirable but not essential.
- Experience with UseBerry, UserZoom, Validately, UserTesting, Loop11, Webex and/or Sketch computer software is desirable.
- Familiarity with current home security / smart home technologies, future developments and understanding the partnerships and use cases behind them is highly desirable.
- Experience working with colleagues from multiple countries in an international business is highly desirable
