Primary Objective
Under GBM’s Transformation Program, the Assessor Ops Support will drive the development of back-end solutions, providing deep operations and industry expertise while working closely with senior stakeholders to lead and manage major solution implementations.
The Product Owner will work with the Front, Middle and Back Offices, Treasury BO, as well as IT teams, to translate business requirements into detailed IT specifications. The Assessor Ops Support will drive agile-style sprints and prioritize the team’s backlog to streamline the execution of program solutions, in alignment to key conceptual, functional and technical requirements.
The Product Owner shoulders all the responsibility for Project success and is ultimately responsible to the team, stakeholders and to the program’s leadership. – acting as the bridge between stakeholders, team, and the end-users
Responsibilities
Provide oversight and day-to-day decision making over The Program needs related mainly to Middle Office and Back office for all GCM products (Cash Assets -Equities , Fixed Income Bonds and FX-, Money market instruments -repos, securities lending-, OTC Derivatives, Listed Derivatives, Structured Notes as well as DCM process)
Provide subject matter expertise to the Project’s leadership team as well as to individual work stream leaders in terms of:
- GCM products end to end flow, processes, systems, tools and protocols
- Trade validation process, enrichment, amendments, etc
- DCM Auctions and sales support (file, deposit, payments, fees, etc)
- Allocation processes (participants, execution, rule monitoring, amendments)
- Pre-confirmation query resolutions
- Settlement monitoring
Where all of the above will be applicable across GCM products1, traded locally or offshore, directly or through an exchange, and in Scotia’s own books, on behalf of clients or in a client account.
Review and implement future processes among different areas such as Middle Office, Back office, DCM and:
- Static Data
- AML
- Compliance
- Accounting and Finance3
- Group Treasury
- Wealth Management & Asset Management
Collaborate with the Transformation Project Leaders on redesign end-to-end trade flow focusing on:
- Increasing straight-through-processing (STP), moving towards exception management frameworks and direct communication/messaging between systems/platforms
- Reducing manual tasks and increasing repetitive task automation
- Improving role delineation
- Creating of functional hubs to centralize tasks across GCM products
Identify gaps between Local practices and BNS TO (and/or other industry-wide) practices in matters under their scope, and review internal policies to update them with changes in roles, processes, systems and/or tools
Improve controls across the trade’s lifecycle to minimize operational risks:
- Increase and automate reconciliations between systems across all assets classes (e.g., balances reported by a custodian vs. internal balances) to ensure consistency
- Automate workflows to track open items, manage errors, track service levels and escalate issues
- Define KPIs and redesign performance management reports to track operational performance (i.e. Trading Oversight Check list)4
Connect Program members with relevant resources/experts to define appropriate solutions
Identify and ensure that Ops requirements are adequately reflected within IT requirements and implementations
Act as primary liaison between Operations Support teams, GWO and the Program’s leadership team
Background / Education / Experience
- 6+ years working in a Back or Middle Office operations for a multinational institution with a relevant capital markets business.
- Working knowledge of OTC and Listed Derivatives, Bonds, Cash Equities and FX markets
- Working knowledge of Mexican and International stocks, securities, depositaries, clearing entities
- Solid knowledge of Mexican regulation as it pertains to Capital Markets, Fixed income and Derivatives Products
- Ability to communicate proficiently in English (written, and spoken)
- Macros developer is a plus
- Spoken and written English is a must
